Summary
These Industrial flip up welding goggles have a Steam Punk look and feel. Great for use as a costume accessory.
Features
Not bad for 8 bucks
When I got mine one the package looked like it had been opened, and sure enough, the tinted parts looked scuffed and one of the clear lenses was scratched. The nose thing hurts. It's like it was designed for some kind of noseless space man. I cut the part off that smashes the bridge of the nose and it fits fine now. I used it just today while weed whacking to keep the sun and the flying plant matter out of my eyes. Minimal fogging from doing yard work on a hot day.
As for use as steampunk costume goggles the color is a bit too modern. It's rubber so if I paint it the paint might flake off, so I'm contemplating getting some kind of faux leather or some kind of metallic cloth and gluing it to the green area.
Not an entirely regrettable purchase since it was cheap (the really nice pairs are quite a bit pricier) and these at least work for yard work.
Sgt.Spitsenjensen,
Uncomfortable
I didn't think they were green, so I may've ordered in haste, but they are a much more modern green than the photo suggests, and do not work in a steampunk context. In any case, I painted mine (of course) brass, and they looked great, but I had several people try them on, and the nose hurts to wear. I know many steam-punks like to wear their goggles on their hats or foreheads, so not so bad, but be aware that these cannot be worn comfortably as goggles. Also, no one could get a close fit, no matter the size of his/her nose.
As to the 1-star review: mine were not scratched (they seemed to be brand-new), and I wouldn't describe the plastic as flimsy: it's sturdy, it's just that it's obviously plastic and thus these shouldn't be marketed as steampunk. For $20, you can do better.
Rosco DuBellieu,
Not Happy
I received my goggles in the mail today. The lenses are all scratched as if they've already been used. They're not what I expected either. They're just flimsy plastic and elastic. And the only way to contact Jabetc about a return is by e-mail. I am very unhappy.
